The Y-Rod is the most traditional of dowsing tools. The word dowsing itself generally brings to mind an image of a person walking, palms up, across a field with a tree branch shaped like a Y. Y-rods are also known as forked sticks, dowsing rods, witching rods, divining rods and water rods.
The Y-rod is known to bend down, called the dowsing pull, when it is held by a person who crosses a water vein.
